A smiling black girl

Smiling Lizzybeth

Discover why smiling Lizzybeth became one of the best students in her school.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Lizzybeth. She loved to draw beautiful flowers, but her face was usually sad and she didn’t smile much. In her class, she won awards for her amazing drawings. Everyone admired her creative ideas and clapped for her.

However, Lizzybeth always had a frown on her face and didn’t seem very friendly. Many kids wanted to be her friend, but they were scared because she looked serious all the time.

Lizzybeth’s one and only friend was Emifi, a girl who was always smiling. They played together often, even though Lizzybeth didn’t smile as much as Emifi did.

One day, Emifi asked Lizzybeth why she was always so sad. Lizzybeth told her that she worried about being poor and didn’t know what her future would be like. She said, “My parents can’t afford to send me to a good school, so I might not be able to become the artist I dream of.”

Emifi listened carefully, and then she shared her own story with Lizzybeth. She said, “I’m also from a poor family. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go to a better school. But my mom tells us to be happy each day. She says that worrying won’t change things, but praying can change everything.”

“We pray every day and thank God for what we have,” Emifi continued. “We believe that our situation will get better with time. For now, we’re grateful for what we have.”

After their talk, something magical happened. Lizzybeth began to smile more and more every day. She made new friends and showed them how to be happy. Emifi and Smiling Lizzybeth became known for their joyful spirits and friendship, and their happiness continued even as they grew up.

And so, Lizzybeth’s once serious face turned into the brightest smile, and she learned that being happy and grateful could make a big difference in her life and the lives of those around her.

You can be like smiling Lizzybeth too.

Lesson: Smiling is a daily choice despite our family situation. Thank God every day for everything you have today.
