As l spread the beans on a tray.
They lie tasteless.
They look hard, like tiny rocks.
Not ready to meet my intestines.
As l shift them to sort stones.
I push them around, finding weevils too.
Also, checking if any holes are in them.
I crack the few uncracked pods.
Later, I drop them into the water for hours.
They bleed some skin paint.
Decoloring the universal solvent.
Yet maintaining their colors: white, red, or black.
Though refusing to soften after 30mins on heat.
Their skin cracks an hour or more later.
The whitish inside, surprisingly, is untainted.
It quenches hunger after the marriage with salt. Yummy!
Though born in a sprout.
Only the cracking/boiling brings value.
With Christ, all hardness turns into softness.
The tasty creeping beans.
Lesson from the poem
In the face of challenges, we can become as tough as uncooked beans. At times, we unknowingly let negativity infiltrate, much like destructive weevils. Yet, by entrusting our worries to God, we discover His boundless grace and love. We needn’t be defeated, for God’s purpose guides us through every trial.
